What is Gib?

GIB is a well-known retailer of plasterboards in New Zealand. They have a comprehensive range of plasterboards and lining materials, which will suit any home. Before having plasterboards or lining frames installed or designed for your home, these materials must be appropriately tested for moisture content.

What We Do

So, what is our role in all of this? Well, as seasoned property inspectors, we are adequately resourced to test your home and any potential fixtures that are being added to your home for moisture. For the moisture content to be acceptable by industry standards, it must fall below 18%. Before being installed, the sheets of plasterboard need to be stacked, handled and stored on a clean surface, which is, of course, free of moisture. To reinforce this protection, most manufacturers separate the sheets from the surface using a moisture barrier, like a polythene sheet.

So, before the plasterboards or frame lining is installed, reach out to our team, and we’ll check the moisture content of the existing walls and timber in your home. If the moisture content is above 18%, there is a strong chance that surface defects will occur following installation. These include cracked joints or popped fasteners.

How We Help

Our pre-installation moisture testing could save you thousands of dollars in unnecessary labouring fees or potential losses on your property, should you choose to sell it without fixing structural problems. Not only can we test for moisture content in your dwelling, we can also look for clear signs that your residence has been damaged by moisture, either from flawed plumbing, insulation or other factors. We can perform both invasive and non-invasive cavity inspections, which is where we thoroughly assess the internal crevices of your property, where moisture is more likely to collect, absorb and ultimately cause long-term damage.
